Applecross Jetty & Moon

February 11th, 2008

This was one of those times when it paid off to wake up early.

I almost didn’t make it to this spot in time because I was hesitant to get out of bed. Hey, it was a super cold morning. Finally, I convinced myself to roll out of bed, put a jacket on and drive down to the Applecross jetty on the Swan River.

By the time I arrived on location the sun was just beginning to appear over the horizon. At first, I was concentrating on shooting the sunrise, but soon I noticed that the moon was still clearly visible in the sky, so I adjusted my composition and came up with this shot. I quite like the simple composition and gradient in the sky.

I am glad I woke up on this particular morning because today I sold a print of this image - which is one of the many reasons I love photography.

Curtis Falls, Gold Coast, QLD

February 9th, 2008

Here’s a re-edit of an old image I captured while I was living over the other side of the country, on the Gold Coast. It took a few trips out to these falls before I came home with something I was proud of. I knew I had to wait for an overcast day where the light and shadows wouldn’t be harsh. After more than an hour of walking around the forest and taking photos I was happy to leave knowing I had captured something I would be pleased with. The final result you see here is a 3 photograph panorama - each frame approx 1.5 seconds worth of exposure.

Check out Dylan Fox Photography for some great Western Australian photographs.

Overcast Skies

February 7th, 2008

A couple of nights ago I looked outside and noticed the sky was full of dramatic storm clouds. I decided to take a drive up to South Perth and take a few shots of the city skyline with the dark clouds behind it. As the sun was setting the clouds began to turn red and I was able to slow my shutter speed down to blur the water and get some smooth, coloured reflections. I spent about an hour there and the result is this 3 photo panorama (shot with my regular tripod head… I am still waiting for the Nodal Ninja to arrive).

I am quite happy with this image and think it will look exceptional when printed and framed.

Sales!

February 5th, 2008

About a month ago I met up with Beau (yes, another Beau) while he was visiting Perth and borrowed his Nodal Ninja for a few quick shots. It was quick and easy to set up, simple to use and produced excellent results. The image on the right was stitched from 5 shots using the Nodal Ninja.

I have used the Panosaurus in the past with great results but found it was a bit of a hassle to set up each time I wanted to use it.

Last week I sold 3 prints which have funded my purchase of the Nodal Ninja. I can’t wait for it to arrive.
