Deep Water Point Jetty

Deep Water Point Jetty

Even though the sky was pretty bland and it was raining, I decided it might be worth it to go out and take some photos at Deep Water Point in Applecross after one of my friends suggested that we should. I’m glad she suggested it because I am pretty happy with how this shot turned out. Thanks for holding your umbrella over my camera while I was shooting, Mack =)

Q1 View

My family and I decided to visit the Q1 observation deck on the last day of my trip to the Gold Coast and I managed to grab this shot. The sunset was quite amazing. I am a little displeased with the blown out area in the sky but apart from that I really like this photograph.

Sea Breeze

July 7th, 2008

Sea Breeze

I’ve only got a few more days left of my trip to the Gold Coast so I thought I’d better head out and take some photos tonight. It was a pretty colourless sunset but I still managed to get a couple of shots that I’m happy with. I can’t really decide whether or not I like the effect that the wide-angle lens has on the buildings. But for now, I think I like it.

I used a bit of dodge/burn, levels adjustments, saturation etc. to get to this final image.

Burleigh Rocks

Burleigh Rocks

Here’s another shot from last nights shoot with a slightly different composition. I think I prefer the point of view of this one a little more than the other, but as this one was shot later into the evening the colours aren’t as impressive. I also like that the clouds are more prominent in this photograph. What do you think?

Burleigh Heads Sunset

July 3rd, 2008

Burleigh Heads Sunset

I drove down to Burleigh Heads tonight to watch the sun set and to take some photos. I have tried this location a couple of years back and was happy with the results I got back then, but I think what I captured tonight is far better than my previous efforts. I do have better gear now, but I’ve also picked up quite a few pointers since then, learned how to use my camera better and have become more proficient with photoshop.

This is just a single frame shot with the 5D and 17-40 F4 at 22mm. I found out tonight that I can’t shoot at 17mm while using my Cokin grad filters as the holder is visible on each side of the photo. 20 seconds worth of exposure, F16, ISO-200.

If any body is interested in exchanging links with me, let me know in the comments section. Cheers.

Gold Coast Again

Gold Coast Buildings

So, tonight I revisited to try and better my photo from last night. I like this one a little more but I think I could do better. I just need some clouds in the sky! The weather has been too nice… I’m going to retry some of my really old photos from back in 2006 over the next few days so keep a look out.

Oh and I picked up a new Manfrotto head for my tripod and it is now back in action.

:D

Gold Coast, Queensland

July 1st, 2008

Gold Coast, QLD

I am on holiday in Queensland at the moment, the Gold Coast to be more specific. I took a few quick snaps tonight down at Kurrawa Beach looking towards Surfer’s Paradise. My tripod is broken at the moment so this one is handheld at ISO-500. This photo needed a bit if work in photoshop to look half decent. I adjusted curves, levels, saturation and did some dodging and burning here and there. I’m quite pleased with it considering it was rushed and hand held.

Thanks for stopping by.
